Does your pet have a problem with aggressive dog behavior? If you want control, you need to communicate in the right way with your dog.

Short of a Magnum 44 caliber weapon, nothing will stop a charging animal already attacking. Aggressive dogs have to be retrained and behaviorally modified in order to act less aggressive in general. Dog aggression as such is a professional term used by dog professionals to define a mutual antipathy of two canines.

Aggression towards humans, which leads to an attack, is either provoked by the inadequate behavior of a human or by a non-natural dog condition. The only other aggression exists when the dog is guarding the home of the owner and an unauthorized person shows up.

Dog aggression towards other canines is normal dog behavior, it varies from breed to breed and can be controlled to a point, unless the other dog invades the other dog’s territory. This behavior, again depending on the breed, can be eliminated or controlled to some point, whereby every dog will have its limits.

Many inadvertent or unintentional actions by humans can trigger aggressive behavior in dogs, in normal cases these actions do not concern the actual owner and the recognized leader of the pack. If a human is attempting to take away a dog’s food, or comes between the dog and its food and water, or displays clear intention to do any such thing, a dog will feel very threatened and react accordingly.

If anyone from the pack, which the dog considers his family, gets attacked, then the dog will do anything in its power to protect his pack. These aggressive displays of the nature of a perfectly normal dog are common and usually not tampered with by the dog’s owners.

Similar reactions will be displayed by the dog if it has the impression that the dog itself or anyone out of the pack, including puppies or even cats belonging to the pack’s household are being threatened.

A stranger looking the dog straight into the eyes is asking for a fight, the dog will react and very probably attack. Instructing children to not insult dogs by staring them into the eyes and thereby challenging them is very important.

Proper behavior towards the dog and adequate communication eliminates most of the unintentional aggressions, other dangerous behavior by the dog should be addressed with help by a trained professional, such as a dog trainer, or better, a dog behaviorist.

Dog behaviorists are professional people, usually with an academic background in psychology, animal psychology, or anything related, who are capable to recognize the sources for the dog’s behavior and assist the human owner in handling the animal properly towards the mutually acceptable peaceful co-existence.

By understanding the “pack instinct” and communicating in a respectful way with your dog, you can stop aggressive dog behavior in your pet.
